GEORGE TOWN, May 7 — Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) will implement two major pipeline projects under Phase 3 of its Water Contingency Plan 2030.
To strengthen water supply to the South-West District of Penang Island. The initiative includes a 13km pipeline linking the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant to Butterworth.
And a 3.9km pipeline connecting the Macallum landing point of the third Penang Twin Submarine Pipeline to the Bukit Dumbar Reservoir.
The RM416 million project is aimed at meeting rising demand driven by industrial expansion, property development and the upcoming Penang Silicon Island.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Ir. Pathmanathan K said water demand in the district is projected to increase by nearly 50% to 302 million litres per day by 2030.
Construction of the Macallum–Bukit Dumbar pipeline has begun and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
The project will enhance treated water distribution from the mainland, ensuring long-term supply resilience while supporting Penang’s economic growth and infrastructure development.
