KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 – Azalina Othman Said said the proposed Political Funding Bill remains under study and has yet to achieve consensus among political parties.

Making it unclear whether it can be tabled before the next general election (GE16). Speaking in Melaka, she stressed that all parties must agree since they will be the main stakeholders of the legislation.

Azalina said key issues are still unresolved, including public funding mechanisms, donation limits and the body responsible for overseeing political funds.

She admitted uncertainty over the timeline, stating she “honestly do not know” if the Bill will be ready before GE16.

Discussions have been ongoing since GE15 in 2023, but the proposal has yet to reach the formal drafting stage under the Legal Affairs Division.
