BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 10 – Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) is progressing with the RM250 million Mengkuang Park Water Treatment Plant project.
Which is now 35 per cent complete and scheduled for completion by November 2026. The new plant, located beside the Expanded Mengkuang Dam (EMD).
Will produce up to 114 million litres of treated water daily for Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT), helping to meet rising demand driven by industrial, commercial and residential growth.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Ir. Pathmanathan said the project is part of Phase 2 of the Water Contingency Plan 2030.
Which includes four new treatment plants expected to add 478 MLD capacity in Seberang Perai. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the plant will optimise the use of the EMD.
Transforming it into a dual-purpose dam that supports daily water production while remaining a strategic emergency reserve for Penang during dry seasons or Sungai Muda-related disruptions.
