GEORGE TOWN, May 11 — The Penang State Government is strengthening its durian tourism sector through updated promotional materials.
And a new QR code authentication system, said State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai.
He said 2,000 copies of the brochure “Durian Legend: Savoring Penang’s King of Fruits” have been distributed to the Penang Fruit Farmers Association to support farmers and promote durian tourism.
Wong said the association, representing about 250 orchard owners, has introduced QR codes to verify durian origin, farm details, and licensing information.
Each code is valid for seven days to ensure authenticity and prevent misuse. He said the initiative enhances consumer confidence.
Protects Penang’s durian brand, and supports transparent trade while boosting the state’s reputation as a premier durian destination.
