BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 11 — Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said Malaysia is taking steps to secure UNESCO recognition for the 24 Festive Drums cultural art form.
Speaking at the Penang-Kedah-Perlis Primary School PETACE Cup competition, he said the performance art was recently included in the Education Ministry’s official annual activity calendar.
Strengthening its development in schools nationwide. Wong said preserving the heritage must begin from the grassroots, especially among young students.
He added that the competition gathered teams from Penang, Kedah and Perlis, with winning schools qualifying for the National Primary School 24 Festive Drums Invitational Competition in Ipoh this August.
