GEORGE TOWN, May 14 — Malaysian contemporary artist Red Hong Yi has launched her solo exhibition, I’m a Mum?!, at Cultprint in George Town, Penang.
Running until July 12, the free public exhibition explores the emotional and physical realities of motherhood through embroidered works, body imprints and large-scale installations.
Created during and after pregnancy. Opened on Mother’s Day, the exhibition features 30 embroidered artworks documenting the artist’s confinement period.
And an installation titled My Confinement Bed, inspired by themes of vulnerability, recovery and identity. During an artist talk moderated by Ling Yah.
Hong Yi shared her hope that mothers visiting the exhibition would feel understood and less alone. The exhibition also highlights the invisible labour and resilience experienced throughout motherhood.
