GEORGE TOWN, May 14 – The Penang state government is intensifying efforts to strengthen its music arts ecosystem through strategic collaborations, international events, talent development and upgraded infrastructure.
Responding to a question from Seri Delima assemblyman Tan Hooi Peng, state executive councillor Wong Hon Wai said the initiative aims to position Penang as a dynamic regional arts and cultural hub.
Among the key programmes highlighted were “A Homecoming in Penang with Vincent Ong” and the upcoming ASEAN International Youth Piano Competition 2026.
The state is also upgrading Dewan Sri Pinang with a RM52 million allocation, while leveraging venues such as Setia SPICE Convention Centre and PWCC for large-scale events.
Penang has also supported festivals and performances including George Town Festival, Butterworth Fringe Festival, Penang Philharmonic and local cultural music showcases such as boria performances.
