KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will cease broadcasting its channels on Astro’s satellite and over-the-top (OTT) platforms effective July 1, 2026.
Ending a collaboration that began in 1996. In a circular dated May 11, RTM said both parties were unable to reach an agreement on pricing and contract terms that suited their financial capabilities.
The termination will involve TV1-HD, TV2-HD and Okey channels. RTM said rising channel rental costs had become increasingly difficult to sustain, prompting the decision to discontinue the service.
The broadcaster noted that its long-standing partnership with Astro had included joint production efforts and benefited audiences from both organisations.
Astro has yet to issue an official response regarding the matter.
