GEOREG TOWN, May 15 – The Penang state government has confirmed that the new Gurney Bay Hawker Centre is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
As part of the larger phased Gurney Bay development. Construction progress currently stands at 4.16 percent. The new facility will feature 127 hawker stalls, seven beverage stalls, 17 retail units.
And 43 mobile kiosk spaces, with a total of 134 hawker lots and retail units to be offered through licensing by Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
The project is also planned as a relocation site for existing traders from Anjung Gurney and nearby Gurney Circle areas.
Records show 93 Anjung Gurney traders and 12 temporary static hawkers may be relocated. Rental rates are still under review and will be finalised based on operational and long-term sustainability considerations.
