GEORGE TOWN, May 16 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the decision on whether the state election will be held concurrently.
With the next general election depends on constitutional considerations and guidance from party leadership.
Speaking at the state legislative assembly, he said legal advice would be sought on the constitutional implications while political direction would come from the party’s national leadership.
The issue arose during an exchange with Lim Guan Eng, who noted that the authority to dissolve the state assembly still rests with the chief minister.
Lim also cited DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, who previously stated that state and general elections should be held simultaneously.
Chow reaffirmed that he would abide by any decision made by party leadership.
