SIBU, May 17 – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg has called on all component parties to remain united.

To ensure Sarawak’s voice continues to be heard at the national level and to safeguard the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Speaking at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Triennial General Assembly (TGA) 2026, he said Sarawak’s political stability and unity.

Have enabled the state to play a decisive role during periods of federal political uncertainty while supporting long-term initiatives such as free tertiary education, digital transformation, renewable energy and hydrogen development.

Meanwhile, PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing announced the party will defend all eight seats it currently holds in the next Sarawak state election.

He said the decision reflects confidence in the party’s incumbents and highlighted PDP’s strengthened position following its merger with Parti Sarawak Bersatu in 2024.

Tiong reaffirmed PDP’s support for Abang Johari’s leadership and stressed the importance of preserving unity, consensus and Sarawak’s development agenda within GPS.
