GEORGE TOWN, May 19 — Repair works on a damaged 54-inch main pipeline at Jalan Raja Uda officially began at 1am today after a burst caused by a third-party contractor.
Triggered an unscheduled water supply disruption affecting Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) and several areas on Penang Island.
Authorities said all related valves have been shut to allow repair works to proceed safely and efficiently. Water users in SPU, except Penaga, Bertam, Tasek Gelugor and Pinang Tunggal.
May experience low water pressure or supply interruptions within the next 24 hours. The disruption is also expected to affect many areas in Penang’s Southwest District.
Including Gelugor, Sungai Ara, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, Batu Maung, Teluk Kumbar, Bukit Jambul and USM Sungai Dua.
To assist consumers, an additional emergency hotline, 04-5096509, has been activated alongside existing hotline and WhatsApp channels.
Authorities apologised for the inconvenience and said updates will continue as efforts to restore supply are expedited.
