GEORGE TOWN, May 20 — Penang is about 75 per cent prepared to face snap elections, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, noting that political readiness cannot be measured by a fixed percentage such as 80 or 100 per cent.
He said preparedness is an ongoing process and becomes clearer only when Parliament is dissolved, adding that “when the time comes, the state will be ready.”
Chow, who is also Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman, said discussions on cooperation with Barisan Nasional for any upcoming election remain open.
And will ultimately depend on decisions made by national leadership. He said different states may adopt different approaches.
With some contesting independently while others continue under the unity coalition framework. Chow stressed that Penang will align with the final direction set at the federal level.
He also announced that the state has achieved 60 per cent completion of its MyPenang Manifesto, with 30 initiatives fully implemented, 17 currently in progress, and three yet to be started.
He said the remaining initiatives are being actively reviewed and pursued, while some long-term projects require more time due to technical or administrative constraints.
Chow highlighted that the state has strengthened transparency through the MyPenang Manifesto dashboard, allowing the public to track progress in real time.
He added that manifesto commitments are treated as a governance responsibility rather than political rhetoric, ensuring continuous delivery of development and welfare programmes.
