PUTRAJAYA, May 23 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that two new codes under the Online Safety Act 2025.
The Child Protection Code (CPC) and Risk Mitigation Code (RMC) — will take effect on June 1 to strengthen online safety and child protection.
Under the CPC, digital platforms must introduce safety-by-design measures including restricting account registration for users under 16 and implementing age-appropriate protections.
The RMC requires platforms to adopt proactive measures such as risk assessments, stronger content governance, advertiser verification and labelling manipulated content.
MCMC said the codes were developed following consultations with industry players and civil society groups to create a safer digital environment for children and families.
