GEORGE TOWN, May 26 — Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang government has yet to make a decision on the controversial RM1 billion Jelutong landfill rehabilitation and reclamation project.
Pending a presentation from the Penang Development Corporation (PDC). Chow said PDC is expected to table its recommendation to the state executive council next week.
After requiring more time to prepare working papers related to the developer’s request for an extension of time.
The project by PLB Engineering Berhad includes the rehabilitation of the Jelutong landfill and reclamation off Karpal Singh Drive.
The Environmental Impact Assessment application was rejected for the fifth time earlier this year, drawing continued objections from environmental groups concerned about the nearby Middle Bank marine sanctuary.
