BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 27 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government is taking immediate steps to address rising job losses by creating alternative employment opportunities.
And expanding training programmes in high-growth sectors such as information technology and artificial intelligence.
Anwar said the issue was discussed during the National Economic Action Council meeting following reports that 7,057 workers lost their jobs in April.
A 21 per cent increase from March. He said intervention measures would be introduced within the next one to two weeks.
Focusing on linking displaced workers to new investments and industries in economic hubs including Penang, Kulim, Selangor and Johor.
The government is also planning special training programmes to help youths enter technology-driven sectors and future-oriented industries.
