GEORGE TOWN, May 28 — Penang Smart Parking (PSP) is once again facing service disruptions, raising frustration among motorists after repeated outages within days.

PSP issued notices at 10.40am on May 26 and again at 9.59am today, informing users of “unexpected service disruption” while restoration works were being carried out.

The recurring technical issues have sparked questions among road users over why the state’s digital parking system continues experiencing downtime despite being widely used across Penang.

Many motorists rely entirely on the app for parking payments and enforcement verification, making repeated disruptions highly inconvenient.

Users are also calling for clearer contingency measures, stronger technical stability and better communication from the operator to prevent confusion.

And possible parking summons during outages. The issue has again highlighted growing concerns about the reliability of Penang’s digital public service infrastructure.

This is not the first time PSP has faced technical problems. In January 2025, major disruptions following the PSP 3.0 system update caused widespread issues for iPhone users.

Forcing the Penang government to temporarily allow free parking while technical faults were resolved. Another service interruption was also reported in August 2025.

The repeated incidents have led to growing public concern over the long-term stability, maintenance readiness and crisis response capability of the state’s smart parking system.
