SEREMBAN, May 28 — The Ministry of Works Malaysia has launched the Design and Installation Guidelines for Electric Vehicle Charging Systems during the 2026 Senior Officers’ Conference of the Public Works Department.

Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan said the guidelines are the first comprehensive reference of their kind in Malaysia.

Aimed at supporting the nation’s green mobility agenda and expanding EV infrastructure nationwide. He said the guidelines will assist contractors, designers, government agencies, petrol station operators and individuals.

In ensuring EV charging installations meet proper safety and technical standards. Ahmad added that the initiative will accelerate the development of charging facilities not only at highway rest stops.

But also along federal, state and municipal roads. He noted that the lack of charging stations remains a major challenge limiting EV adoption in Malaysia.

And stressed that JKR will continue playing a proactive role in supporting sustainable transportation development.
