KUCHING, May 30 — Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof announced that the government has opened tenders for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
Across several locations in Peninsular Malaysia to strengthen grid stability and support the growing adoption of renewable energy.
Fadillah said BESS technology is becoming increasingly important as solar and other renewable energy sources do not provide continuous base load power and can affect electricity supply reliability.
He noted that all Large Scale Solar projects currently being tendered will include battery storage components.
The initiative follows the launch of the 100MW Santong BESS project in Terengganu, which is expected to benefit around 40,000 users.
Similar battery storage projects are also being expanded through Sabah Electricity and Sarawak Energy Berhad in East Malaysia.
