KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Khairy Jamaluddin described Umno as a centrist “big tent” party capable of balancing different views while protecting the interests of all communities.
He said Umno’s strength lies in its ability to accommodate differing perspectives and resolve issues through compromise without creating winners and losers.
Khairy said accusations that Umno is subservient to DAP in the unity government are baseless, stressing that the party continues to defend Malay-Muslim interests.
On issues such as the Urban Renewal Act, the Unified Examination Certificate and the Sedition Act. He also said Umno should aim to become the strongest force.
Within future coalition governments, although the era of single-party dominance is over. The former Umno Youth chief added that he still hopes to become prime minister one day.
But no longer sees the ambition as the sole measure of success after spending three years outside active politics.
