GEORGE TOWN, May 31 — Police have confirmed that the 56-year-old foreign national who died in the fire at the former Odeon Cinema building on Penang Road was a renovation worker.
And not an employee of the entertainment outlet previously operating at the premises. Northeast district deputy police chief Lee Swee Sake said the victim’s body was found.
Near the front entrance of the building at about 10.23pm after firefighters brought the blaze under control. Investigations revealed that the premises had ceased entertainment operations.
Several months ago and was undergoing renovation to be converted into a restaurant. Police have classified the case as a sudden death report.
While investigations continue into the cause of death and the origin of the fire. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while investigations remain ongoing.
