JOHOR BAHRU, May 31 — Umno recorded 16,867 new members within 20 days of launching its online registration platform.
With 71 per cent comprising youths, according to party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. He said the encouraging response reflected the effectiveness of the digital registration system.
And growing youth participation in the party. The announcement was made after the Umno Supreme Council meeting chaired by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The party also celebrated its 80th anniversary at Istana Besar Johor, the historic birthplace of Umno in 1946.
Leaders, including Ahmad Zahid, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Attended the commemoration alongside Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail, recreating the historic founding photograph at Tangga Selat.
