KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad revealed that 46 per cent of the first 20,000 members who joined Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) had never belonged to any political party before.
Making them the largest segment of the party’s membership base. Former PKR members accounted for 29 per cent of sign-ups.
Followed by Umno (6.3 per cent), PAS (5.2 per cent), Amanah and Bersatu (2.5 per cent each), Muda (2.2 per cent) and DAP (1.3 per cent).
Nik Nazmi said the figures indicate that many Malaysians are searching for a political alternative. He also disclosed that several sitting lawmakers.
From both government and opposition parties had expressed interest in joining Bersama but were advised to wait due to concerns over political stability.
