CYBERJAYA, June 2— The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has begun enforcing age verification requirements for social media platforms.

Under the Child Protection Code (CPC) and Risk Mitigation Code (RMC), introduced through the Online Safety Act 2025.

Under the new rules, licensed platforms including  Facebook,  Instagram,  TikTok and  YouTube must ensure only users aged 16 and above can create new accounts.

Existing users will undergo age verification over the next six months using government-issued identification documents.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said platforms operating in Malaysia must comply with local laws, warning that regulatory action may be taken against those that fail to meet child safety requirements.
