GEORGE TOWN, June 2 — Police are investigating the theft of telecommunications cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM) in Batu Uban after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Northeast district police said a report was lodged by a 41-year-old TM technician after he discovered that approximately 70 metres of telecommunications cable.
Valued at RM17,000 had been cut and stolen along Jalan Batu Uban 1 in Gelugor. Investigators believe the suspects used a dark-coloured Mazda 6 Hatchback during the crime.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Police have urged members of the public with information to contact the Northeast District Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation.
