GEORGE TOWN, June 6 — Construction of the Penang Mutiara Line LRT continues to gain momentum, with the Bandar Sri Pinang and Penang International Airport stations.
Recording the most significant progress since the project’s groundbreaking in January 2025. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said station designs are currently awaiting final approval.
From the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), which is expected soon. At Bandar Sri Pinang, foundation and column works have been completed.
And construction is moving into the station superstructure phase. Meanwhile, five viaduct piers have already been erected at the airport station site.
Chow said construction activities will intensify in the second half of 2026, with traffic management plans and phased lane closures expected.
Along the 23.7-kilometre alignment from Komtar to Silicon Island. Currently, pier construction is underway at 14 locations across the route.
