GEORGE TOWN, June 7 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said there is currently no urgent need to hold a snap general election.
Echoing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s view that the government should focus on addressing the people’s needs and navigating ongoing economic challenges.
Chow said rising tariffs, geopolitical tensions and conflicts in the Middle East have affected global resources and energy prices, creating significant challenges for Malaysia.
He noted that the federal government still has about one-and-a-half years remaining in its mandate, while Penang has around two-and-a-half years left in its current term.
He added that available time should be used to focus on national development and economic priorities rather than calling for early elections.
