SUNGAI PETANI, June 8 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will not raise fuel prices despite ongoing global supply challenges, stressing that protecting the people remains a priority.
Anwar said the government continues to absorb billions of ringgit in fuel subsidies each month, with costs ranging between RM3 billion and RM7 billion depending on global oil prices.
He rejected proposals to finance subsidies through additional borrowing, saying future generations should not bear the burden of government debt.
The Prime Minister said subsidy costs are being managed through fiscal discipline, spending controls and efforts to curb leakages.
He added that Malaysia’s RON95 fuel price remains among the lowest in the world due to continued government support.
