TOKYO, June 11 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged countries to take a firmer stand against punitive tariffs and discriminatory trade policies.
Stressing the importance of free trade and multilateral cooperation amid growing global uncertainty. Speaking at the Nikkei Forum in Tokyo.
Anwar said Malaysia remains committed to open trade and believes nations should speak out against protectionist measures.
He also emphasised the need for Asean to maintain its independence while engaging major economies and emerging blocs such as BRICS and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Anwar warned against the weaponisation of economic interdependence and called for greater collaboration in areas including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy and regional supply chains.
