TOKYO, June 11 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have called for reforms to the United Nations Security Council.
Including greater representation, inclusivity and transparency to better reflect current global realities. In a joint statement, both leaders also pledged support for each other’s future bids.
For non-permanent seats on the Security Council, with Japan seeking a seat for 2033–2034 and Malaysia for 2036–2037.
The two countries agreed to deepen cooperation in defence, maritime security, energy, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and supply chains.
They also welcomed a new long-term LNG supply agreement between Petronas and Japan’s JERA.
