GEORGE TOWN, June 11 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government is consulting the Department of Environment (DoE) before making any decision.
On the proposed Jelutong landfill rehabilitation and Karpal Singh Drive reclamation project. Chow said discussions are ongoing to better understand environmental impact assessment (EIA) requirements and considerations.
He stressed that decisions must be based on verified information, proper procedures and careful evaluation of financial implications.
The remarks come amid concerns raised by NGO Protect Karpal regarding project delays, extensions of time and previous EIA rejections.
Chow confirmed that a new EIA application has been accepted by the DoE and will be reviewed further by the state executive council.
