KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has reaffirmed its support for the Unity Government formed after the 15th General Election.
Pledging to remain part of the federal coalition until the next general election. In a statement following its Supreme Council meeting.
Secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said UMNO retains the right to determine its own strategy in state elections, including the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls.
He stressed that the federal Unity Government agreement does not bind state governments, noting that Johor’s administration was formed before the federal coalition.
UMNO also rejected claims that defending its mandate in Johor amounts to betrayal, describing it as a legitimate democratic process, while remaining open to political cooperation based on sincerity and trust.
