SEBERANG PERAI, June 13 — Galatek Technologies has officially opened its first manufacturing, assembly and delivery facility in Malaysia, marking a significant investment in Penang’s high-technology manufacturing ecosystem.
The new facility will serve as a regional production and delivery centre for customers in Southeast Asia and global markets, supporting industries such as semiconductors, advanced electronics and life sciences.
Backed by Granite Asia, Galatek has invested approximately US$2 million (RM9.4 million) in its initial operations and plans to expand total investment in Penang to US$100 million (about RM470 million) over the next five years.
Officiating the opening, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the investment reflects strong confidence in Penang’s industrial capabilities and further strengthens its reputation as the “Silicon Valley of the East.”
He noted that the project will support advanced manufacturing, automation and innovation while creating quality employment opportunities. Galatek, which develops AI-enabled automation and semiconductor equipment.
Expects to create between 20 and 30 jobs in 2026 and grow its Malaysian workforce to around 100 employees within five years as production capacity expands. The company also plans to increase collaboration with local suppliers and strengthen engineering and manufacturing capabilities in Malaysia.
