GEORGE TOWN, June 13 — The Rakan Muda Persatuan Melayu Pulau Pinang has called for consideration to be given to appointing Penang’s first Malay chief minister.
Citing 2025 population data showing Bumiputera now make up 46.2 per cent of the state’s population, compared with 43.7 per cent for the Chinese community.
Its chairman, Mohd Syauqi Ibnihajar, said the proposal reflects changing demographic realities and the aspirations of some residents for leadership that mirrors the state’s population composition.
He stressed the suggestion was not intended to deny any community’s rights, while urging the state government to continue addressing issues.
