GEORGE TOWN, June 17 — Penang is investing RM2.9 billion in 12 major water supply projects to meet rising demand and support the state’s continued economic growth through 2032.
Pathmanathan K. said water consumption is projected to increase from 865 million litres per day (MLD) in 2025 to 1,162 MLD by 2032, driven by industrial expansion and major development projects.
Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang(PBAPP) is implementing six Water Contingency Plan 2030 projects, while the federal government will undertake additional infrastructure works.
Including a new Sungai Muda barrage and Mengkuang Dam upgrades. The projects are expected to be completed between 2026 and 2031 to ensure long-term water security for Penang.
