BATU FERRINGHI, June 18 — Penang Tourism and Creative Economy EXCO Wong Hon Wai said women have become a driving force in tourism, culture and the creative economy.
Speaking at the 2026 World Women Economic and Business Summit, Wong highlighted women’s growing role in heritage conservation, hospitality, gastronomy, medical tourism and sports tourism.
He noted that women now make up more than 30 per cent of participants in the Penang Bridge International Marathon and continue to contribute significantly to preserving George Town’s UNESCO heritage status.
And Penang’s cultural identity. Wong said the state government remains committed to expanding opportunities for women through entrepreneurship, leadership and skills development programmes.
