BUTTERWORTH, June 20 — Penang Governor Ramli Ngah Talib hosted a state dinner to honour media practitioners from Malaysia and across ASEAN ahead of the HAWANA 2026 summit.
Attended by nearly 350 guests. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow described journalists as the frontline defence against fake news, misinformation and manipulation.
Stressing their critical role in preserving information integrity in the digital and AI era. He said the media remains a strategic partner in Penang’s development.
And expressed hope that HAWANA 2026 would strengthen regional cooperation and ethical journalism. The summit will be officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today.
