KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Malaysia is moving to strengthen laws governing artificial intelligence as concerns grow over deepfakes, identity fraud and AI-generated child sexual exploitation material.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the government is adopting a two-pronged approach by embedding safety measures during AI development.
While enhancing legal enforcement against misuse. Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, he said existing laws already protect children, but must be updated to address emerging AI-related threats.
Gobind added that the legal review process includes feedback from academics, industry experts and religious practitioners, to ensure Malaysia can regulate new technologies responsibly.
