GEORGE TOWN, June 28 — Penang has stepped up public awareness efforts ahead of the implementation of the Community Service Order (PKM), which takes effect on July 1.
State Local Government and Town & Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye joined Rajendran P. Anthony in distributing information leaflets around Lebuh Armenian to educate residents, businesses and tourists.
Under the new enforcement, littering offences such as discarding cigarette butts, food packaging and rubbish in public areas may result in court action, fines of up to RM2,000.
Community service of up to 12 hours, or both. Enforcement officers will also wear body cameras to ensure transparency during operations.
