PUTRAJAYA, June 30 — Malaysia’s domestic tourism sector recorded strong growth in 2025, with visitor spending rising 13.6 per cent to RM121.3 billion from RM106.7 billion the previous year.

According to Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), Chief Statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said domestic visitor numbers increased 11.5 per cent to 290.1 million.

While the average length of stay rose to 2.56 nights. Growth was driven by festive seasons, school holidays, state tourism campaigns and major events nationwide.

Tourists accounted for 59.5 per cent of total spending, while land transport remained the preferred travel mode. Selangor was the most visited state with 36.4 million visitors, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Perak.
