KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — The Dewan Rakyat has passed the Cybercrime Bill 2026, introducing a stronger legal framework to combat cybercrime, digital fraud, identity theft and online exploitation.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the legislation as a “game changer”, saying it strengthens public protection.
While ensuring investigations remain subject to legal procedures and oversight. The Bill also introduces offences targeting scams, deepfake abuse and the non-consensual distribution of intimate content.
Zahid stressed the law does not restrict legitimate free speech and aims to keep Malaysia’s cybercrime framework aligned with evolving technology.
