KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — Lim Guan Eng and Tony Pua have defended the Pakatan Harapan government’s restructuring of the LRT3 project.
Saying it reduced the total cost by RM9.72 billion without compromising passenger capacity. The pair said the project was never suspended between 2018 and 2020.
But underwent a cost rationalisation after projected costs rose to RM31.65 billion. Measures included reducing train sets, downsizing stations and deferring five stations.
Which have since been reinstated under Phase Two. They said the final project cost stands at RM21.93 billion, with additional savings of up to RM10 billion in future interest costs.
