KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — MANDIRI has condemned the Sabah government’s decision to bar Asraf Sharafi from entering the state, describing the move as an infringement of democratic rights.
MANDIRI said Asraf, who has lived in Sabah since 2008 and is married to a Sabahan, was denied entry on June 30 under a Notis Amaran Sabah (NAS).
The group argued that while Sabah has immigration autonomy, the law does not permit restrictions against Malaysians entering the state for lawful political activities.
It called for the immediate removal of the ban and the blacklisting of activists.
