KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said the government will table a motion to refer the Freedom of Information Bill 2026 to a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) for further scrutiny.
Azalina said the move will allow broader engagement with MPs and stakeholders to strengthen the proposed law. The Bill seeks to provide Malaysians aged 18 and above.
With a legal framework to request official information, although documents protected under the Official Secrets Act 1972 will remain exempt from disclosure.
