GEORGE TOWN, July 16 — Penang Chief Minister and PBAPP chairman Chow Kon Yeow announced that Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) has signed a conditional Bulk Water Supply Agreement (BWSA).
With Prasarana Air dan Irigasi Perak Sdn. Bhd. (PAIP Perak). To secure Penang’s treated water supply for 40 years, from 2032 to 2072.
Under the agreement, Perak will supply between 300 and 500 million litres per day (MLD) of treated water through new infrastructure estimated to cost RM8.4 billion, fully funded by PAIP Perak.
PBAPP will not bear the capital cost and will pay an annual capacity charge of RM210 million and RM1.70 per cubic metre of treated water.
Chow said the project will strengthen Penang’s long-term water security while complementing future plans to explore seawater desalination.
