GEORGE TOWN, July 17 — Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital EXCO Zairil Khir Johari said the Air Itam–Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway Bypass (Package 2) has reached 91.8% physical completion.
With no increase in the project’s RM851.97 million contract value. He said several design revisions, including replacing planned tunnels with open-cut construction.
And relocating a proposed U-turn near The Light, were approved based on engineering, geological and safety assessments.
Zairil stressed that all design changes are borne by the contractor under the design-and-build contract, with no additional cost to the Penang government.
As of June 2026, RM668.41 million or 78.54% of the contract value has been certified for payment.
