KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan has proposed liberalising pork imports and gradually replacing the local pig farming industry.
With the eventual aim of closing pig farms in Kampung Selamat. He said the issue concerned pollution, public health and residents’ welfare, not race or religion.
Wan Saiful also called for tougher penalties and stronger enforcement to address pollution in Sungai Kereh.The government said river conditions had improved since farms were required to send waste to a biogas treatment plant.
