GEORGE TOWN, July 17 — Paya Terubong State Assemblyman Wong Hon Wai rejected calls to shut down pig farms in Penang, saying recent measures have significantly improved pollution control.
Wong said all licensed pig farms are now required to send waste to a centralised biogas treatment facility, while Penang has achieved 100% modernisation of its pig farming industry.
He stressed that enforcement should target operators who breach environmental laws, not compliant farms, and urged policies to be guided by facts, science and the rule of law.
Wong also called on Gerakan to state its position on the proposal.
