GEORGE TOWN, July 19 — Thousands of visitors gathered at Padang Kota Lama for the Penang Bon Odori Festival 2026, celebrating Japanese culture.
Through traditional Bon Odori dances, taiko drum performances, cultural showcases and authentic Japanese cuisine.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the annual festival symbolises unity, cultural exchange and the enduring friendship between Malaysia and Japan.
Consul-General of Japan in Penang Machida Shinya added that the event reflects the strong ties between both countries, which will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2027.
The festival concluded with a colourful fireworks display, drawing thousands of spectators along the Esplanade.
