KAJANG, July 21 — Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim defended the government’s fuel subsidy policy.
Saying Malaysia spends about RM40 billion annually on petrol and diesel subsidies while keeping RON95 at RM1.90 per litre despite importing nearly half of its petroleum needs.
Anwar said the government would not increase national debt to further lower fuel prices. He also directed Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar to review.
